Techniche Recordings is an independent and internationally-known techno and tech houseĀ label based in San Deigo. The label was founded by DJsĀ MyxzlplixĀ andĀ John VilottiĀ during the global pandemic. Despite the odds, Techniche Recordings is quickly establishing itself as one of Southern California’s premiere labels for techno and tech house fans. The label recently released YEAR 1NE ANTHOLOGYĀ to celebrate and reflect upon its first year. With no signs of slowing down, Techniche Recordings is geared to explore and reach new horizons in the coming lunar years.
Thank you for speaking with 6AM, weāre looking forward to learning more about Techniche. Can you walk us through how Techniche came to be?Ā
Hosted a few events with John Villotti we had the opportunity to host a monthly event at Richās nightclub in 2016. We started Techniche as an outlet expressing our desire for Techno & House Music in a proper venue on a consistent basis. From the start, we decided to present our sound and style of branding that was essential to us which proved to be a successful venture. We wanted a venue not only for ourselves, but also to support local talent that didnāt seem to have many opportunities at the time. Through consistency and hard work, the support of Richās, the āundergroundā house & techno community, weāve been fortunate to stay true to our objective without catering to a mainstream audience.
We thought weāre either crazy for starting an independent, US based techno label during a pandemic or smarter than we think if it succeeds and now, here we are.
Congratulations on one year! What does the YEAR 1NE ANTHOLOGY mean to you?
It means that weāre making progress at a decent pace and with consistency while still building and learning. And we can look back and be humbly proud thatĀ we have a healthy catalog of solid tracks made by some talented producers.
What is Techniche’s most memorable show to date?
The next one, and the next one after that. The ones weāve done are all significant and there are standout moments, but weāre still going and thatās exciting. Weāre fortunate to continue to host events at the best venues in the city for a diverse and friendly audience who come for the music and thatās paramount to us. If we had to say, itās each anniversary event cos we know then weāve sustained this for another rotation around the sun.

This industry requires a bulletproof mindset. You need consistency, discipline and resilience because thereās a lot of rinse and repeat and at times no visible progress. What helped you stay your course when Techniche SD was starting out, especially as a label that launched during a global pandemic?
Believing in ourselves, working with the right people, staying focused and consistent but having fun in the process. With the label, we knew that was always the next step toward progress and raising our stock so to speak. Obviously with no events happening during the covid shutdowns, it made sense to finally start up the label. We thought weāre either crazy for starting an independent, US based techno label during a pandemic or smarter than we think if it succeeds and now, here we are.
Thoughts on Space X? Just kidding. Talk to us more about the astronaut and what it represents? Why an astronaut?Ā
Donāt know enough about Space X to make a fair opinion, weāre more inspired by the old school guys – NASA. For the astronaut, we initially used the astronaut just as a visual piece of our promos and then we actually made a few as novice props for our events. To us the astronaut represents embracing new challenges and finding ways to achieve goals, and exploring new spaces bravely, but not completely without fear, lol. The astronaut does all of this through calculating, āTECHNOlogicalā means.Ā
Anything else youād like to share?Ā
Thank you 6AM for this opportunity to speak with you and thank you to all of our supporters and believing in our endeavors. See you in the void.
