Just under a year ago the IO Music Academy opened its doors for classes in Los Angeles, with the underlying understanding that while music production can become such an overwhelming subject with the myriad of software, plug-ins and hardware now available on the market, it doesn’t have to be hard to learn how to produce music.
When it comes to electronic music production, the technical approach many music production schools have been employing thus far, and especially the jargon being used throughout their teachings, do not help at all but in fact over-complicated the learning process. IO Music Academy’s goal is to offer a learning music production experience that is approachable to everyone, even those who have little-to-no experience in music production.
We have teamed up with IO Music Academy to give 6AM readers the chance to win a place in this summer’s Behind The Beat Class with Kevin Lavitt, worth $375.
For this Behind The Beat series, instructor Kevin Lavitt will break down his tools and formulas for building compelling chord progressions, bass lines, melodies and everything in between. The goal of the class is to build student’s confidence navigating any musical setting and feel excited to take on all creative obstacles. Kevin Lavitt, is a multi-instrumentalist producer with a degree in Jazz Piano from Cornish College of The Arts.
The class will begin Tuesday July 31st between 7-9:30pm and will run every Tuesday thereafter at the same time for four weeks total. Student requirements include a basic understanding of Ableton Live and a laptop with Ableton installed. The required MIDI keyboards for the class will be provided by IO Music Academy.
