Introducing Together Festival, a day-long event to be held at San Francisco’s Armory club on October 8th, featuring an all-female artist cast.
Gender equality has been a point of major relevant discussion in the dance music industry for years now, just as it still remains a big talking point in the world at large, as evidenced by the current U.S. presidential elections. Yet, current statistics highlight what remains a problem that is far from being resolved: women only make up about 10.8 per cent of major music festival lineups.
Together Festival is set to be headlined by Chicago’s Dani Deahl and Brazzabelle, with Uniiqu3, Little Boots, TT the Artist and more scheduled to play. On top of music, the festivity will also provide space to exhibit technology and art all within the 4,000 capacity venue.
Organized by San Francisco DJ Ms. Jackson, Together Festival seeks to “turn the power of women DJs and artists into one night in San Francisco that can’t be missed.”
Jackson talked with SF Gate about the vision behind the 18+ event, “We asked, ‘How do we highlight some of these artists that should be getting headlining spots at festivals but aren’t because of their gender?'” Jackson said, “We know that there is an incredible amount of female talent in electronic music, in hip-hop, in house music. There should be a mainstream music festival that has an all-female lineup.”
